Brandon Lewis is a historian, interpreter, and living history professional whose career blends rigorous research with engaging storytelling and immersive experiences. With a B.S. in History focused on the Indian Wars, Brandon has dedicated his life to exploring and sharing the complex narratives of the American West. His specialty lies in the Plains Indian Wars era, where his combination of scholarship, field experience, and interpretive skill makes history tangible for audiences of all backgrounds.
Brandon is the founder of Lonesome Bill’s Historical Interpretation, a venture through which he consults with museums, cultural institutions, and artists while providing living history programs that bring the past to life. His portrayals are rooted in authenticity—supported by years of research and investment in historically accurate gear, clothing, and equipment. Whether portraying soldiers of the frontier, cowboys, or figures such as Buffalo Bill, Brandon illuminates not only what happened, but the humanity within those stories.
In addition to his independent work, Brandon serves as the Raptor Training and Husbandry Specialist at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, where he combines his expertise in wildlife conservation with his interpretive abilities. This rare blend of natural history and cultural history gives him a unique perspective on the American frontier, where people, wildlife, and landscapes shaped one another in profound ways.
He has collaborated on film productions including Expedition Unknown, Into the Wild Frontier, Custer’s Strategy of Defeat, and Wyoming PBS, and is a sought-after model for Western artists. His work in front of the camera is matched by his skill as a guide and educator in the field, where he thrives in connecting visitors to place, story, and memory.
In 2025, Brandon joined Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours as a historian-in-training under Dr. John Langellier for the Crazy Horse and the Struggle for the Great Plains tour.
