I loved this tour. It was better than advertised. Our historian, Casey Brower, was great. He knew lots of details that really enriched the tour and educated us. I will never forget the information he provided about the battle at La Fiere Bridge and Pvt. DeGlopper, Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, St. Mere Eglise, and so many other locations. The tour manager, Sabine, took care of everything; no hitches. The driver, Yohan, expertly navigated the tour on those narrow ancient streets.

Dunkirk & Battle of Britain Tour

My wife and I took the Battle of Britain and Dunkirk tour in 2025.
Our group was well taken care of by Hugh (the historian), Lisa (the quartermaster) and Rene (transportation), who were excellent hosts. Our seats for the Duxford Air Show were excellent. The education was very informative.
Hotel accommodations were comfortable and meals were excellent.
The tour met all of the highlights listed above.
I would like to take this tour again. But we are signed up for other SAHT tours in 2026 and 2027.

Band of Brothers Tour

I had the great honor of being part of the Band of Brothers tour in May 2025. I could probably write a book about my experiences. But I can’t do it here and now. What I can say is it was beyond my greatest dreams and expectations. Those 14 days pass so quickly. I saw and learned much more than I expected. We were blessed with a great historian, tour manager, and bus driver with us on the tour. On top of everything else I had the honor an privilege of meeting some wonderful people from all across the United States and the countries we visited. Someone asked if I would do it again. What i said to them was a resounding yes, because I would love to see, record, remember, and touch all things I missed the first time.

Band of Brothers Tour is a life changing experience

Having just returned from the Band of Brothers tour, I can confidently say it surpassed all expectations. The tour is led by a historian (in our case, Matt), expertly managed by a tour guide (Connie), and made truly exceptional by an outstanding bus driver (Martjine). From the outset, the tour delves into significant locations, provides connections to history, and shares compelling stories of the brave men and women who served. It is difficult to articulate the profound impact of this experience. However, one returns with a deep appreciation for the courage of those who fought to secure the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today. Every detail, from the tour itself to the accommodations and dining arrangements, is meticulously planned and of the highest quality.

DDay to the Rhine June 2025

I just got back from the June 1st DDay to the Rhine tour, and I have to say it was wonderful. Our two leaders made the trip special. The first one I met was David Otteley, the tour manager, and he immediately made me feel that his mission in life was to take care of me on this trip. It took me awhile to realize he gave the same impression to each person. David mother-henned our group the whole time, making sure we were on time and where we were supposed to be. And he made everything fun!
Our group was also very lucky to have Rick Beyer as our leader. Rick was not only very knowledgeable about every aspect of our WWII journey, but he was an excellent teacher and explainer. He had the ability to paint a picture with words and to make us see and feel what had happened on a particular spot.
This trip has been on my bucket list for years and it exceeded all my expectations.

D-Day to the Rhine

Just returned from this tour (June 2025), which included the 3 day extension. It was fantastic. Our tour guide Rick Beyer was excellent. He has very deep knowledge of the subject, a clear commitment to preserving and passing on the important legacy of those who served and sacrificed, not to mention a quick wit. David Ottley was a great tour manager, making sure we all got where we needed to be and sharing his valuable experience and good cheer every day. If you have a genuine interest in the subject area, you are bound to enjoy this tour! Be prepared to marvel at the beaches in Normandy and the beautiful American cemetery; learn about the heroics of your fellow tour member’s fathers and uncles; glimpse the foxholes used by Easy company during the Battle of the Bulge; see where English code-breakers broke Nazi codes; sit in the very room where top Nazis were tried for war crimes at Nuremberg; see the ruins of Hitler’s mountain lair in Ubersalzburg; and pay your respects and bear witness to the evils perpetrated at Dachau. Some tips: Make sure you have a good pair of shoes because you will be walking quite a bit; don’t pack heavy, you don’t need a ton of stuff; pack a small umbrella and a light rainproof jacket to have on hand during the day; and depending on when you travel bring a couple of layers just in case you have a cold or rainy day. Go for it!

Riviera to the Rhine: Operation Dragoon

We were part of the first tour for Operation Dragoon. I was instantly taken by the tour because it would follow the path my father took as a 27 year-old Infantry battalion commander in the 45th Infantry Division.
The tour also included a stop in the French town of Meximieux, where my father’s battalion withstood a ferocious German counter attack, after which my dad received a Silver Star.
The tour historian, Chris Anderson, was very kind to let me add my knowledge of the Battle of Meximieux because the city named a square after him in the 1970s, and celebrates the anniversary of the battle every 5 years.
When the tour was over, we returned to Meximieux for the 80th anniversary. The small town of roughly 7,000, located northeast of Lyon, was one of the first fights where the French Resistance participated and provide information about the German Army disposition.
The tour manager, George Luz, was terrific and has quite a great personality. Historian Chris really puts himself into the tour, taking us to a variety of locations where action occurred but is not well known, including the actual location where Audi Murphy earned his Medal of Honor.
The tour also included, near Strasbourg, a German concentration camp.
Our bus driver, Klaus, was awesome. We couldn’t believe his skill in handling such a large bus in narrow streets and country roads.
Another plus: traveling through Provance and the wine country of the Rhone River as well as the French Riviera.

Can you rate more than 5 stars? Best 1st trip to Europe!

My wife and I did our first trip to Europe on the B.O.B. tour, and we cannot think of a better way to see Europe. She did not have much understanding of the B.O.B. before, and now, having been in their footsteps and in the towns they liberated, she and I have a much deeper understanding of what it was like for those boys. Being at the Crossroads in Holland, and then in the foxholes of the Bois Jaques, brought the reality home. Our historian, Erik, is top-notch! His personal knowledge he has from being friends with several of the Easy Company boys gave so much more to the story than what most people know. Our tour manager, Sabine, kept us all in line and gave some great information on every stop as to where the best places to go were and what the best food in the area was. How our driver, Klaus, negotiated the very narrow roads throughout the trip in a big bus, all I can say is outstanding!

Anyone looking for a great trip full of history, this is the best way to go! We are looking forward to other trips with Stephen Ambrose Tours!

Excellent Tour - 80th Anniversary D-Day Operation Overlord

I’m so glad to be given the opportunity to give my thoughts on the tour and the experience and I hope you don’t mind the outline form.
(1) First of all – The itinerary was very good, and it covered so many of the places my wife and I were interested in.
(2) The driver (Ramon), the tour manager (Madeleine) and historian (Rick) were awesome in their own individual ways but as a team, these 3 individuals added up to a team of 6.
a. Madeline (the tour manager) was fluent in French which helped tremendously on the journey with hotels and traffic.
b. Rick has written several books (six, I believe) and wrote and produced a film for PBS on the Ghost Army.
c. With the chaos and road closings/detours of the 80th anniversary, the three of them maneuvered us to other sites not on the original itinerary which turned out to be an extra bonus. We didn’t miss any site on the original itinerary.
(3) The hotels were all excellent and the service was exceptional. The only improvement I can think of was that the hotel we stayed in the longest had a fixed menu with no options. Usually, they offered a fish dish which was excellent but several people in our group did not like fish.
(4) The bus was very comfortable and had plenty of room.
There were additional benefits that we didn’t expect. Many of the people on the tour had a lot of knowledge about the D-Day invasion and several people including my wife had family members there on D-Day. The conversations and the stories were personal and informative.
In summary, it was an incredible trip, and we are looking into another Stephen Ambrose tour in the near future.

We had very high expectations. And this tour exceeded every one of them.

The tour description is not hype… When it tells you that you will walk in the footsteps of the 101st Airborne, that is not hyperbole or exaggeration. It’s exactly what you do. And doing it with Chris Anderson (who knew and spent considerable time with the men) gives you the privilege to know their thoughts, their feelings, their experiences in a way that you’d otherwise never be able to do. If you can do this, please do. You will not regret it.

I was on the tour group that the CAF had arranged with SAHT. We had an excellent Tour Manager Keith Smith, who stayed on top of every issue that came up on our trip. Our Tour Historian BG Casey Brower was also excellent addition to the tour. He was very knowledgeable about the sequence of events surrounding D-Day and had plenty of source material to share with the members of our group. I would defiantly recommend this tour and hopefully will take it again next year.

Awesome 80th Anniversary of D-Day Tour

My family and I returned from France only late last night and I wanted to dash off a few thoughts about our excellent 80th Anniversary of D-Day tour.

I am exceedingly grateful to Rick Beyer and Madeline Andersone for putting together such a wonderful experience. The logistics alone are daunting, and Madeline kindly, patiently, and graciously put up with my piddling questions and requests like the good host she is. Rick tells history the way I think it should be told, as a good story first that reveals the most honorable traits to be found in men and women. I’m also very grateful to our wonderful driver Ramon who kept us safe and was so pleasant to a bus-load of demanding individuals.

I really don’t have enough superlatives to tell you how wonderful I thought everything was, especially the thoughtfulness of the wreath for the dead of the 29th Field Artillery. That made remembering my dad, who, thank God, survived the day, special.

One final thing. As we walked back from the graves at the American Cemetery on Omaha Beach to our seats for the D-Day ceremonies, fellow traveler Ben Cohen asked me what my thoughts were. I told him I couldn’t think about it too much because I quickly become overwhelmed with emotions of loss and sadness at the tremendous sacrifices those young men made for us. There simply aren’t words adequate enough to describe the flood emotions.

Amazing Trip Back Into Time

This is the second trip that my wife and I have taken with Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours. We had the pleasure of having Chris Anderson as our Historian and George Luz, Jr. as our Tour Manager for both trips. They are the best in the tour business! I never knew much about Polish history before this trip. Chris did an incredible job of taking us back into time and showing us how Poland’s history was closely tied to World War II and why Hitler had a deep hatred toward Poland. The trip was like pieces of a puzzle that Chris put together for us throughout the tour. Today’s Poland is amazing and beautiful with wonderful people – I admire them greatly. Over the centuries Poland was beat down time and time again, but they have come back even stronger. Amazing country! We loved this trip! A side note: My wife had a stress fracture in her leg for the entire trip and our drivers (Klaas and Lucas) were so gracious and caring – they always made sure the wheelchair was available for us to use. Both men were wonderful – and great drivers too!

Exceeded expectations!

Day 14 of my Band of Brothers tour – Points (Going Home).

What an amazing two weeks! I thought I knew the story of the Band of Brothers. I have seen the complete series countless times. I have read the book by Stephen Ambrose several times. I have read just about every book authored by historians and/or by the men from Easy Company. This tour gave me a perspective that none of those stories could.

On this tour, I was able to walk the ground and see where the history actually took place. I was at Camp Toccoa and went to the top of Mount Curahee. I was at Brecourt Manor and saw where the German guns were located. I saw the tree line that Winters and Compton used to attack each gun. We were explained the tactics used and why. I was able to look down on Foy from the Bois Jacques. I saw the remnants of Easy Company fox holes. We were taken into Foy and were told how the battle progressed. We saw battle damage on buildings that were a direct result of Easy Company fire. We stood on the bank of the river in Haguenau where Easy’s last patrol crossed. I sat in the main hall of Hitler’s Eagles Nest.

But our trip wasn’t just about Easy Company and all they accomplished. I saw the D-Day planning maps at Southwick House. I saw Pegasus Bridge where the first Allied soldiers landed on D-Day. I walked the ground of Pointe du Hoc and marveled at how the US Rangers could have scaled the cliff. I saw French fortifications on the Maginot line. I visited US cemeteries at Omaha Beach, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. We even stopped at a German cemetery outside of Bastogne.

There are so many more examples that I could go on of how special this trip was. I met some great people, stayed at some amazing hotels, and ate wonderful food.

If you have an interest in Easy Company, this trip through Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours is the only way to go. Our historian Matt and tour coordinator Connie did an amazing job of making this trip a once in a lifetime experience. It exceeded all expectations. I would travel again with Stephen Ambrose Tours in a heartbeat. After each day, I didn’t think the next day could be better but unequivocally it was. If this trip would have ended after just the first few days, where we studied all aspects of the Overlord invasion, I would have felt that it was worth every penny.

We traveled 1,873 miles, through 8 different countries during the 14 day tour. I have memories of a lifetime. I will pass on my experiences to anyone who will listen because history has to be retold so it does not repeat itself.

There are a lot of other “Band of Brothers” type tours out there but, this is the ORIGINAL one. Developed by Dr. Ambrose who met and traveled with the men from Easy Company. Dr. Ambrose walked the actual ground with Dick Winters and the other members of Easy so every aspect of tour was correct. Don’t be fooled by imitations. Chose the first and the finest!

Curahee!

The best trip that I’ve ever taken : Bar none. Chris Anderson, George Luz and Klaus the bus driver where 3 of the best team members ever. I don’t know, but I think Chris knows everyone in Europe whom has anything to do with BOB’s. George Luz had first hand experience, because he is the son of George Luz an Easy Company member. Because Chris and George have had many experiences with the men of Easy Company, it made all the difference in this tour. I could go on for hours and hours talking about this tour, but if you are a history buff it is something that you need to make your best efforts to try and make it happen.

The “Drive to Victory Tour” tour was outstanding! It is fulfilling in some way to stand in the locations where history was made. The Battle of the Bulge sites, Nuremberg, including the 1930’s rally grounds, Dachau, Berchtesgaden and the Eagle’s Nest were all highlights for us. We are very glad we went. The tour met our hopes and expectations. Our tour director, historian, and bus driver kept us on track, informed, safe, well fed, watered, and comfortable. Our tour manager graciously offered physical assistance to anyone who needed a hand. We are in our seventies, so the physical part of the trip was a concern before signing up. However, I think anyone who can walk a half-mile to a mile without difficulty can do fine on this trip. It was our second trip with Stephen Ambrose Tours, and we feel that we made the right choice both times.

This was my third SAHT tour with Chris Anderson and it far exceeded my expectations. Just when I think it can’t get any better, Chris puts it over-the-top. With his firsthand accounts from the dozens of Easy Company survivors that he personally knew as well as his personal friendship with Major Dick Winters, he brings the events to life and you can’t help but feel that you’re actually there as an eyewitness. Chris has developed unique and personal relationships with the de Vallavielle family at Brecourt Manor (behind Utah Beach), the Overveld family at the drop zone in Son, Holland and other contacts on the tour that will leave you with memorable experiences that NO other guide can offer. He is a master historian and storyteller that is not afraid to show his true emotions as he shares the well documented accounts through seven countries and 3,000 miles of travel. Oh, and don’t miss the Toccoa extension; even if you have to make a separate trip, do it BEFORE you take the tour with Chris.

Iwo Jima Tour 2023

What a great time and a great group of people. It was 3 years of waiting after COVID canceled the 2020 75th Anniversary Tour.

The wait was worth it, I got to go with my son, Alden, who is 13 years old. He got to have a blast and maybe he doesn’t realize it yet, but he got to meet the WWII veterans that were part of our trip. When he gets older and the last of them are gone, this will be a special moment for me and for him. We are forever grateful for them and for the heroes that never made it home.

It has been about a month since we got back and I am still recovering from all the stuff we saw and got to absorb. From abandoned air raid bunkers left by the Japanese Military, to tanks and LST’s in the water from the numerous D-Day type of invasions on Saipan, Guam and of course Iwo Jima.

Overall, the historians had unimaginable knowledge of not only the battles themselves, but who was in charge, who was relieved of command, and a host of other knowledge that put us in a place that we could imagine what it was like, of course without bullets flying at us.

I can only imagine what the other trips to Normandy and other historical sites might be like, but Iwo Jima in particular had significant meaning for my family and I want to thank all that went and made this trip of a lifetime possible.

Thanks SAHT for a great trip.

Manhattan Project Tour

The Manhattan Project Tour was excellent. The tour took us to the three Manhattan Project National Historical Park sites – Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Hanford, Washington, and Los Alamos, New Mexico. We learned so much about how, in a short amount of time, the atomic bomb was created, to its final shipping to Tinian, one of the Northern Mariana Islands. We learned about the men and women, military and civilian, who worked on the project and the extraordinary dedication of everyone from the scientists to the cafeteria crews that kept these places humming. In addition to the national park sites, we participated in guided tours of the White Sands Missile Museum, the Trinity site, and other places of interest. It was an honor to walk in these historic places and contemplate how history changing they were. History is always a reminder to me how far we have come as a country. During the time of the Manhattan Project, we learned segregation was part of its history, and as a country, we addressed this wrong, passing on, lessons learned. We learned the end point of how destructive the bomb was, and we also learned about the great strides in nuclear medicine, nuclear energy and how the US shares our expertise to keep the world safe from nuclear accidents. My only regret, was the tour was not longer! I highly recommend this tour.

Civil War Tour: This Hallowed Ground

My original interest in this kind of tour comes from my nephews passion of the Civil War and we wanted to travel together at least once. Was interested in doing the Band of Brothers tour, which is how I knew that SAHT had these Civil War Tours. Because of the whole covid situation still lingering we decided to do The Hallowed Ground tour. We were not disappointed!!! Touring all the different sites, of where not only the battles happened but how the citizens on both sides of the conflict were entrenched in some of these battles was a point of view that I had not stop to long to wonder about. Gerry Prokopowicz’s knowledge, understanding & perspective of this time in our history was captivating, interesting as well as respectful toward the subject matter!!! Love how he was able to incorporate the human aspect of this important part of our history!!! His passion on the subject pours through, not only in his explanation of things but in his continued interest in still being in awe of new discoveries!!! Openness to questions & different points of views with a respectful way of explaining them was humbling!!! Connie Kennedy, our guardian angel, was equally as passionate in making sure that every person got to enjoy the tour to the degree in which we wanted to experience it!!! Her love of history & the joy it brings us comes through in her loving, caring & respectful way of making sure we are having the ultimate experience!!! Smiling every day & being of good humour was greatly appreciated!!! Hal our trusted good humoured
transportation specialist didn’t only get us to places on time safely, he also was part of the tours ability to make us feel welcomed as well as taken care of in every aspect possible!!! These three individuals, along with the support staff of Jenni, Carmen, Terri & Cheryl, made it impossible not to have an eyeopening, educational & amazing tour!!!

As for the tour itself and the content of the tour, it was as exceptional as the wonderful people that guided us as well as those who were individually informative and passionate about the separate subject matters they taught us about!!! There is a tremendous amount of content packed into the tour but with a relaxed feeling of taking it all in!!! So much information as well as sights to see and so little time to see it all but it was done exceptionally well!!! Got to see and learn a lot with the time we had!!! Well laid out to take in the most of what there is to experience!!!

From my experience on this one tour with SAHT, I know that I will definitely tour with them again!!! If we are as well guided, taught and taken care of as I felt on this tour, it is a no brainer, I will take other tours with them in the future!!! The entire staff I had the privilege & honour to experience on this tour made it possible to enjoy it to the fullest with no misfortunes!!! Food & lodging were part of the experience that your staff made sure we were happy and always well taken care of!!!

My heartfelt gratitude & appreciation for Gerry, Connie, Hal, Jenni, Carmen, Terri & Cheryl for making this an experience of a lifetime!!!

Road to Yorktown

Loved this tour! It started in one of my favorite southern cities, Charleston, SC and ended in colonial Williamsburg. Along the way we visited many battlefields and historic sites. Our historian made events come alive with his stories and his explanations of battle tactics were fascinating. I look forward to future trips with SAHT!

A tour to remember for lifetime

We just came back from the Manhattan project tour. It was fascinating and we are so happy that we made the trip after a long wait. The sites, museums, contents were very carefully picked detailed into the historic significance. They put together the best local guides (best local historian, director of museums) on each site, each site were looked from different aspect including the historical background, scientific, engineering achievement, significant people involved, the past and present of local lives as well as the after effect to the world and mankind etc. The visit to the B reactor in Hanford Washington, and the Trinity site in NM were the highlight of our tour. Standing on the site, we felt and understood so much more than we did from reading books or watching the Youtube videos. We also visited nearby missile range, and museums for the battle planes, which were excellent extension of the manhattan project after the WWII. This tour did not include the pacific island and Japan. But they have invited Mr. Don Farrel on the trip, who filled us in the stories on Tinian island. We have made some wonderful friends who are very knowledgeable in science and history. The arrangement of the hotels, food, buses were excellent, very comfortable and safe. There were no waiting lines in all the places we visited. We highly recommend this tour and this company. Will definitely go on other tours with them.

Lewis and Clark Tour: Undaunted Courage

THE TOUR for those interested in the Lewis and Clark Expedition

I second all the comments made so far about this tour. Starting in Great Falls, MT, was a perfect beginning. We got to experience the plains, the Missouri above the falls, the Rockies, the valleys in between, the arid plateaus of Washington and Oregon, the temperate rainforests of the Cascades, and the broad Columbia river emptying into the Pacific. Dams and other modernizations may have changed the landscape somewhat, but we still were able to get a good feel for what Lewis and Clark recorded in their journals. Our historian, Dr. Don Snow, was tireless in telling us the complicated story of the expedition, and the tour director, Nick Scramuzza, shepherded us through all the tour logistics with aplomb and humor. This is a unique tour and fulfilled a dream of mine to see what Lewis and Clark saw.

Apache Wars of the Southwest

Apache Wars

I just returned from the Apache Wars Tour, and once again Stephen Ambrose Tours did not disappoint. The Tour was everything I had hoped for. I learned so much about the Apache Culture and history, as well as the Spanish presence in the early Southwest. The spots we visited, like Cochise’s stronghold, the many forts, and the fantastic museums were amazing. And what more can I say about Dr. John Langellier. He is the most knowledgeable man on the subject of the Southwest, and never fails to pass on this knowledge to others. I have known John for over a year, and through two tours and he has become a good friend. And our tour coordinator Connie Kennedy was also amazing. she kept things rolling right on schedule, but even more she cared and looked after her guest, as did John.. This tour is a must, as is any tour with John and Connie. Two thumbs up!

Band of Brothers - October 2022 - Unforgettable, Outstanding, and Fun!

This was our first Stephen Ambrose tour, and we wanted to go with Chris Anderson, because we enjoy his History Happy Hours each Sunday. Having a cursory knowlege of the subject area, we really didn’t know what to expect, but having said that, the context, knowledge base, details, locations, and Chris’s personal relationship with most of the Easy Company men all added to the fantastic experience. We were able to go to places along the route that were not seen by many tours based on the personal relationship that Chris has with many of the “locals.” Keith Smith, tour manager for this trip took constant care of all of us, and our driver, Klaus, maneuvered our tour bus into every nook and cranny on the way. Food was exceptional as were the majority of the accommodations. This is a tour that will touch everyone’s hearts and minds — the bravery of the 101, et. al. No one should hesitate to take this tour … get on the list! We have already booked tours for 2023!

Lewis and Clark Tour: Undaunted Courage

Following Lewis & Clark to the Sea

The tour, which carried our tour group through some of the most scenic terrain in the Great Northwest, was much more than a sightseeing trip over the terrain where the Corps of Discovery passed. Don Snow, our tour guide, covered countless details regarding “the world’s greatest camping trip”, including information about the numerous Native American tribes they encountered. For the first time, I gained an appreciation of how very different the tribes were and how Meriwether Lewis managed to communicate with them – with the invaluable help of Sacajawea and Charbonneau.
The hotels we stayed in varied in quality The Whitman Hotel in Walla Walla was at least a four star, and the meals in Helena were particularly outstanding, but all the hotels were satisfactory for sometimes-tired travelers. Nick, the tour manager, is truly a man with HEART. He looked after every person in the group with energy and genuine caring.
Because of delays caused by COVID and forest fires, my wife and I waited three years for this tour. It was well worth waiting for.

Wonderful in every way

Marvelous. Terrific combination of history and nature and cultural background. Our historian was full of information and every day had a mix of hiking, viewing artwork, enjoying great food, on and on. Our tour director had a great sense of humor and provided his own lively stories too.

If you’re even moderately active, definitely take the optional 3 day canoeing and camping extension. You see the river from the river. The tents and food are great.

This was our first Stephen Ambrose tour and it won’t be the last.

Outstanding trip!

We were part of a small, post Covid tour and it was absolutely fabulous! Our leader was Chris Anderson who has been with many of the veterans previously on his tour. His personal first hand knowledge of events made this tour very special indeed. A highlight for us was being at Dick Winter’s foxhole in the Ardennes.
No matter how much knowledge (or lack thereof) you have beforehand, this tour provides much more!
A truly authentic experience in December awaits the travelers!

Crazy Horse & Custer Tour

JOHN RICE says:

Crazy Horse and Custer

Not to repeat myself from last year this is an outstanding tour. Joh Langellier was supper knowledgeable and communicated his knowledge with vigor and enthusiasm. Nick Scramuzz is and outstanding tour manager. Nick kept everything moving on an even keel. Nick was never too busy to help any of the guests with any problem they may have had. John made it a point to speak with each guest and answer any questions they may have had about what they were seeing.
The reenactment of the Battle of the Little Bighorn was spectacular. I was pleasantly surprised that the reenactment was also the history of the Northern Plains Indian tribes, as well as the battle. We saw mountain sheep, and wild horses not at a distance, but up close. There was a member of the Crow Indian Nation (First Scout) as a step on guide that gave the Indian’s side of the battle.
One of the highlights of the tour was the farewell dinner. It was a cowboy cook out. Steaks cooked on an open fire, cowboy beans, cowboy biscuits and coffee, including a chuck wagon. Nice touch. Hopefully, Yellowstone will be back in operation, (because of the flood) and the ride via Bear Tooth will be back.
Don’t look for me next year on this trip because I will be doing the Apache tour. But I would do Crazy Horse and Custer again

Wonderful journey

The DDay to the Rhine trip(June 2022) was our second trip with SAHT and hopefully not the last. Our historian was Chris Anderson and he is truly a walking encyclopedia! His passion for WW2 history is evident in every visit. He kindly made an unscheduled stop for me at Sugar Red sector of Utah Beach because he knew that was where my father had landed!
Looking forward to another trip with SAHT!

Trip of a Lifetime

My wife and I enjoyed every minute of every day. Our historian, Chris Anderson, provided personal anecdotes from residents and veterans that helped make each site all the more interesting and moving. We had the honor of being at the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach for the 78th anniversary ceremony. It was amazing being there with some of the surviving veterans sharing the moment honoring them. Chris was masterful knowing his topic inside and out yet making it interesting for all regardless of how much knowledge one had going in. Sabine was the camp Mom, making sure everyone was happy and safe as well as keeping us all on schedule so we could see and do as much as possible. She even helped put my wife and I in contact with a friend who is a master clock builder as a side project in the midst of all her other responsibilities. Klaus, our driver, was friendly and added to the experience dining with him and learning from him as well. The lodgings and meals were very nice as well. We have already booked a follow up trip waitlist with the Pacific theater tour and are looking at several of their other offerings in the meantime. I cannot imagine a better tour experience, and we can’t wait to go again..

Operation Overlord Tour

John LeRoy says:

Absolutely amazing

What an amazing trip this was. I took my father with me. Our tour guide, Chris, was the most knowledgeable and passionate person on the subject matter that I’ve ever seen. He knew everything down to the smallest detail and had actually been at the sites before with former EZ Company members that told him, “this is the exact spot where this happened”, etc. We were there while the queen’s jubilee was going on in London and also the anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, so our schedule had to be adjusted a little bit to accomodate for crowds and traffic, but our bus driver and tour manager went above and beyond to make it all work. The tour manager did an excellent job of calling ahead to every place that we visited to make sure that they were still able to handle a bus of tourists as it had been a couple of years since any of these places had had visitors because of prior covid restrictions. All of our hotels were great, the meals were all timely and excellent, and the bus was comfortable. We saw a lot of museums and stopped at many important and some surprise sites along the way. Standing on the shores of Utah, Omaha and Juno beaches and imagining what it was like on D Day was an experience that I’ll never forget. Can’t wait to book another Stephen Ambrose tour.

D-Day to the Rhine

This is the bucket list trip that I have been waiting for and it was beyond my expectations. From walking on the Normandy beaches, and attending the D-Day ceremony and sitting in the audience was a special treat. There were so many outstanding sites that we visited. Our London tour guide Tim was great. Bletchley Park was so neat and how the code breakers overcame astronomical odds to break the German codes. Standing inside one of the bunkers overlooking the Pointe du Hoc waterfront brought home what terror the Germans there must have experienced seeing the armada of ships descending on them. Both the American and Germany cemeteries brought home the human element of the war. The Berchtesgarden extension was very worthwhile and touring Dachau brought the trip to an emotional climax. I highly recommend this trip. I will remember this trip for years to come and made many new friends along the way.

Mike Johnson

My son and I took this tour some years ago and are still talking about it. The tour and it’s guide were fist class. I have been to Normandy since and it was more impressive having been with Ambrose before.

— Mike Johnson

John and Cindy Lindstedt

Stephen Ambrose Tours certainly covers strategy and the high level of a military campaign, but they have the great ability to collect much anecdotal information about the average GI and that is what gives the color and humanist to their tours.

— John Lindstedt

Rob Thibodeaux

I can't describe the experience completely. I really had a great time on this trip and I highly encourage you to choose this trip. If you have been on it before the second time is certainly worth it.
