Rick Beyer, the historian for our Ghost Army Tour, needs your assistance with letting members of Congress know about the the Ghost Army Congressional Gold Medal Campaign.

Rick leads our Ghost Army Tour, which follows the story of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, the extraordinary deception soldiers better known as the Ghost Army and includes many other World War II sites to offer a wider context for the story of the deceivers. He made The Ghost Army documentary, is the co-author of the book The Ghost Army of World War II, and is currently working as an advisor on a feature film based on his book that will star actor Bradley Cooper.

He is holding a screening on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. this Thursday evening to advance the cause of the Ghost Army Congressional Gold Medal Campaign, his effort to obtain official recognition for this unit. It is long overdue.

If you live in the DC area, you are welcome to come. But even if you can’t make it, you can help by contacting the DC office of your Congressperson or Senator. He is using this event to educate folks on The Hill about the Ghost Army Congressional Gold Medal Campaign, so invite them to come to the screening, or send someone from their office to learn more about this amazing unit.

Dear (Member Name),

As a constituent, I wanted to let you and your staff know about a special Capitol Hill screening of the documentary The Ghost Army, which tells the story of a top-secret Army unit credited with saving thousands of lives during World War II. The screening is on Thursday February 25 at 6PM in Rm. 2103 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, also known as the “Ghost Army,” used intlatable tanks, sound effects, and illusion to fool the Germans on the battlefields of Europe.

Last year, Rep. Annie Kuster (R-NY) and Rep. Peter King (R-NY) introduced H.R. 2170, the Ghost Army Congressional Gold Medal Act. This legislation would collectively award a Congressional Gold Medal to the unit’s members, providing a long-overdue honor to these courageous, creative individuals Rep. Kuster is hosting the screening and bringing filmmaker Rick Beyer to celebrate the unit and raise awareness of the Gold Medal Campaign. I hope you can attend this screening, or send someone from your office, to learn more about this amazing unit.
