Historian Kevin Hymel to Speak on Patton’s War at the Library of Congress

That’s when historian Kevin Hymel will be speaking at the Library of Congress about his books, Patton’s War: An American General’s Combat Leadership, Volume 1 and Volume 2, as part of the Live! at the Library ; Made at the Library series.

As noted on the Library of Congress website, Kevin will discuss the mercurial army general at the height of his military career during World War II, 1942-1944. Kevin has researched traditional and newly available sources to offer fresh insights into Patton’s most memorable achievements and infamous lapses.

In addition to the book talk, visitors are invited to enjoy a rare, one-night-only curated display of original diaries, letters, and photograph albums from the Library’s George S. Patton Papers and meet the Library of Congress Manuscript Division staff who work with these items.

About Kevin Hymel

Kevin Hymel is a Historian for the U.S. Army. He is the author of Patton’s War: An American General’s Combat Leadership, Volume I and Volume 2 and Patton’s Photographs: War as He Saw It. Kevin has served as a historian at the U.S. Army Combat Studies Institute at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He was also the Research Director for WWII History and Military Heritage magazines and has written numerous articles for each. His article “WAC Corporal Lena Derriecott and the 6888th Central Postal Battalion,” is being made into a movie by Tyler Perry.

Kevin has been a popular historian with Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours for more than 15 years and has appeared in numerous documentaries on the History Channel and American Heroes Channel. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from LaSalle University and Master’s Degree from Villanova University, both in History.

Kevin will be leading our 80th Anniversary of D-Day: Patton’s 3rd Army Tour. In addition to attending the official June 6 commemoration ceremony, you will follow Patton’s Third Army across France, to its relief of Bastogne and invasion of Germany.
